Convenience Fee Salon Policy
To effectively display & enforce your salon’s convenience fee for clients using plastic, post this in a decorative glass frame at your reception desk, nail/styling stations, esthetician or massage therapists rooms & online booking pages/website stating that a ____% fee (you fill in the blank for flexibility, but typically it's 3%, however it could go higher since Square is raising their fees at the end of March 2025) will be added to all credit or debit card transactions to cover the rising processing costs.
It’s important to remind clients that this fee does not apply to cash payments, encouraging them to choose their preferred payment method. Addressing this upfront prevents misunderstandings & ensures transparency. Bakeries, resale stores, dry cleaners, pet groomers & other salons apply a convenience fee for customers who want to use plastic so they can rack up points for free vacation travel (which you are paying the fees for them to benefit).
This way cash paying clients aren't penalized by higher service prices & more clients may choose to pay with cash instead to save money.
